Shine #2

I wish that I had known just what takes place when portals and black holes collide in pure space

Do they dance a cosmic two step until their circles break

Or is it just a gauntlet, a journey of such that illuminates our weary souls and takes them back to star dust

Technology must slow down if we are to understand it better. Or are we the ones that need to run faster and with more tether

Our ever expanding universe is traveling at the speed of light but our senses seem frozen in the shadows of the night

If we can take the circles and make them into a ring, could it not finally teach us how to sing

To marry us to the elements of time and then design a magic world that frees us in its rhyme

Islands in Life’s Stream

I stood and watched the gentle stream as it grew more turbulent it would seem It wound its way through mounds of earth that caught its essence, caught its birth It caught its current and made it run ever faster to towards the sun

After the splendor of an autumn day with the sun warming softly the golden hay The smell of fires in distant trances gives way to love and fall romances

There comes that time of season when earth paints itself for a reason A royal event to ponder

A regal occasion from which to wander

The smells of autumn entice me and fill my soul with a warm vision of yester morrow A place in which I can stand, looking forward and to the back

Blending time with memory and savoring the essences of future past

What do I see in the ether, what spells have I conjured from my life as teacher Perhaps only snapshots of yesterday, today or tomorrow

And yet maybe a painting of eternity and sorrow

Once I walked on grass and clay but today I tread on pebbles of silver as they lay And yet the streets of gold still hold me to my humble past

While exploring the magic future that has been cast

Yesterday I meet a golden boy who told me tales of wonder and joy Ever filling my mind with splendorous light

While giving me sustenance and shinning through my long dark night

So what of the islands and what of the streams that divides our energies and gives us the seeds? Their constant presence in our perfect world Give credence and stature to our every word

So here's to the islands in the streams

And here's to their waters, here's to their dreams

May they forever exist to give us the energy of a lover’s first kiss?

AUTUMN WEAVINGS

AUTUMN  WEAVINGS

Walking out unto our terrace today I noticed a large spider web, artfully stretched between a bush and our tree. A thing of true beauty, a natural work of art. A signal that the fall season is soon upon us.

Summer is now turning into fall again and I am feeling the chill of the north wind on my face. It  will soon be time to face the winter darkness once more. But fortunately before the ultimate cold  and dark of winter descends, there is this magical season of dappled sunlight and frosty color to bask in. A time to collect our thoughts and the experiences from the last three seasons and bring them together into a warm and comforting quilt, a quilt that will both protect us from the cold days ahead as well as nourish our souls through the long winter’s night.

It is in the fall that my thoughts turn much as the sun’s angle and become reflective of times past.

It is once again time to gather and sort them so that they can be carefully stored in the memories of my mind, yet still kept accessible for times to come when I will need them once again to feed on and gain sustenance from them.

 Form Follows Function

Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophy is really only a reminder that mathematically, function is a driving force in the world of design and nature, but it sometimes must of needs be “tweaked”, if you will. Nothing is written in stone nor should it be. As time passes we discover every day that certain theories and beliefs can and do change, with technology leading the way.

My Theory of Design

The true nature of nature lays in its ability to transform energy into light.

There are so many ways to express creativity in our forum of life events, but there is one that is the most important of all.

We should not assume that our way is always the right or best way to weave the tapestry of beauty and desire. There are so many avenues that we can travel to arrive at the same destination, all of which have their own challenges and rewards.

Let there be design

When Science and Technology Meet Spirituality

Socrates had three golden words with regard to life and they were “beauty, proportion and truth.” I would add a forth - “design”, which I believe to be the culmination of the first three.

Plato too had his own theory “Plato's Theory of Forms”. It asserts that the physical world is not really the 'real' world; instead, ultimate reality exists beyond our physical world. His most famous quote was “The first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself; to be conquered by yourself is of all things most shameful and vile.

Socrates himself believed in ‘the universality of the inner rational being’ - “He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature.”

I have found much wisdom in the words of these two great thinkers and it brings me much comfort to draw upon their wisdom in my day to day endeavors, but it has also been a key to understanding my universe of design.

More current philosophers like Einstein and Darwin have taken up the torch of wisdom and have been successful in passing it on to further generations, if we only listen. Being an Architect and Designer I have found that I tend to look at life from the standpoint of this dimension.
